Beauty briefs, late summer 2020: young at heart

Demos with Debra Švarc, US director of brand development for Lottie London.

We can agree than in most cases, age is more about one’s mindset and outlook than the birth date on a driver’s licence. On the other hand, there’s nothing more ageing than trying to find the “fountain of youth” through products and fashion squarely aimed at high school and college demographic with their splashy retro logos, packaging and bright colours.
That said, just as one can find a good basic T at some “fast fashion” places on occasion, you can find some solid everyday basics under US$15 hiding in plain sight within some young-and-trendy make-up lines. This fall, Lottie London and Essence roll out a few nice-and-neutral items worth a look or a try-on.
Lottie London’s coconut primer: infused with coconut, this delicately scented primer with coconut extract, vitamin B5 and chamomile extract is a light, fresh addition for your weekend make-up routine. While it’s designed as an under-layer for foundation application, its composition elevates a just-washed face with a hint of natural shimmer.

Lottie London ombre blushes and Essence blush lighter: Chanel, Chantecalle and the Kevin Aucoin line all rolled out chic, subtly multi-toned blushes that create a multi-dimensional flush when brushed on. These affordable ombré blush dupes allow you to play while saving money for more important everyday essentials.

Lottie London’s setting powder and Essence Skin Perfector loose fixing powder: the ultra-light yet buildable vegan and gluten-free formulas, available in several natural skin tone shades, polish and seal in a daytime look while evening out and buffing imperfections with a natural matte finish.

Lottie London Curlboss mascara and Essence Bye Bye Panda Eyes: a wide-eyed look is all in the wrist, with the Lottie London wand providing improved curling and lengthening and Essence’s new mascara delivering clean volume and separated lashes. Both formulas are vegan and free of parabens, alcohol and other things that may irritate eyes and cause smudging.
